More Possible Signs Of Pregnancy
- Frequent Urination – For pregnant women, the frequency of
urination is caused by the pressure of an expanding uterus onto the
bladder. It often occurs at the start of the pregnancy, subsides
during second trimester and returns a few weeks before labor.
However, frequent urination can also be caused by urinary tract
infections, diabetes, tension, excessive consumption of diuretics,
increased liquid intake or tumors.
-
Breast Changes – During the first weeks of pregnancy, a
temporary enlargement of the breast occurs. Changes of the breast
continue as pregnancy progresses, which include the darkening of the
areola, increased breast firmness, enlargement of the glands within
the areola, increased breast tenderness and veins that are more
visible or prominent. These breast changes would only be considered
signs of pregnancy if a woman has not delivered recently and is not
breastfeeding. In addition, breast firmness or tenderness can also
be caused by impending menstruation, hormonal imbalance and birth
control pills.
- Quickening or “Feeling of Life” – Quickening is the first
awareness of fetal movement within your uterus. It often occurs in
between week 16 to 20. In the early stages of pregnancy, however,
fetal movement can be thought to be gas.
- Vaginal Changes – Two types of vaginal changes may occur
during pregnancy – the Chadwick’s sign and Leukorrhea. The
Chadwick’s sign, which occurs at the 6th week of pregnancy, is
confirmed by checking if vaginal walls have a deeper color. The
change in color occurs within the 6th week of pregnancy, but may
also be due to pelvic congestion or uterine tumors. Leukorrheais the
increase of white discharge with a faint musty odor, which is caused
by hyperplasia of the vaginal epithelial cells. However, leucorrhea
is also a symptom of vaginal infections.
